Safety advice with animals in South Africa

South Africa is a land of rich natural beauty and you will no doubt visit there hoping to see a wide variety of wild animals which the country is famous for. It’s a great idea to go to a zoo to see them, although if you want to go out on safari to see them in the wild, then this is also a great idea. There are a few tips though that you should follow to avoid any potential danger when it comes to the animals.

  • When on safari, always listen to the instructions of your tours leader. They are trained to know what to do any a wide variety of situations with animals and their advice has the potential to save your life!
  • Never get too far away from your tour group if you are given free time. You will no doubt be asked to stay within a certain zone and to avoid areas which may contain wild animals, so again listen to your instructor when they give you such advice.
  • At night in certain areas you will need to keep a lookout for animals such as lions that prowl the area. Your instructor will no doubt let you know what the procedure is, but you should take it in turns if you need to keep out a night watchman to guard the camp. This will mean things are kept fair and even with your sleeping patterns.
  • If you are driving yourself, always read signs on the road for certain animals as they could jump out at any moment. Be slow and cautious and remember that South Africa has some pretty big animals that could damage the car you are driving, or even kill you! Remember if you see an animal on the side of the road, there will no doubt be several of the same animals around the same area as well.

Always have fun during your trip in South Africa and enjoy the animals! Just remember to stay safe while you do to enjoy your trip the best way possible.
