History of India

The history of India dates back from the beginning of human civilization. Starting with Indus Valley Civilization, which was the first major civilization in India and The Harappan Civilization, a mark of urban culture, Indian history is very old yet interesting. Historians are amazed to find that there used to be well build cities with proper drainage system and major facilities available.

The ancient and medieval India’s political map was made up of myriad kingdoms with fluctuating boundaries. During the fourth and fifth centuries A.D., northern India was united under the Gupta Dynasty. During this period, which is also known as India’s Golden Era, Hindu culture and political administration achieved greater heights.

Many invaders have ruled over India and that too for good amount of time but not permanently. Ancient India was known as the golden bird. It had loads of wealth and culturally rooted.

The first invaders of India were Indo Aryans. They are believed to come from Iran or Russia. They came to North India, fought with the locals and pushed them to the extreme south. The people in the south are believed to be the descendants of Dravidians who were earlier living in North India.

Alexander the Great also ruled over India. Similarly other Greek rulers invaded India and established their kingdoms.

One of the prominent rulers of India was Muslims. Also popularly known as Mughal Empire, they not only raided but also forced people to adopt their religion. Indian culture had to face tough time during their reign.

During 17th Century, the British started penetrating into India making their presence strong slowly and steadily. With their witty plans and strong background British ruled India for a quite a long time. Their divide and rule policy helped them stay long and strong. However in 1947 under the political leaders India gained its freedom.
