Travelling criss-cross across India takes just a few hours’ flight but more than a day if you were to go on a train. However, the fun of watching rivers, lakes, bridges, forests, and cites go past from the comfort of your window seat is thoroughly invigorating in a long distance train in India. Train Tour – India has a detailed railway network that was created during the pre-independence era. Today, a lot of changes have been done and railways are managed under various sub-divisions. For instance, you can board from Howrah terminus (South Eastern zone) in a reserved compartment and land at Pathankot in Punjab (Northern Zone).

Modestly cushioned bunks are provided to spend the night. Kids aged 5 must avail a half-ticket to travel. But they do enjoy a complete bunk all to themselves at night. There are rods and clasps to ensure kids are safe and don’t fall off the bunk while the train is moving.

While many choose night travelling in a semi-sleeper Volvo bus – say, 500 km or more, there are short-distance inter-town buses. Luggage section is separate and kids can enjoy a dedicated seat to themselves – provided a full ticket is paid.

Taxis – If you are travelling at a hilly spot, you can consider hiring a car. Car rentals are readily available at all major tourist spots in Himalayas and rest of India too. In the hills, the cost goes up exorbitantly. The mountain track, mist, and dangerous terrain are some of the reasons why you need to cough up at least 4 times the price of a bus ticket if you hire a car all by yourself. But, kids who have altitude sickness, taxi ride can just the right mode of travelling. Nooks and curves at high altitudes can take a toll on your health, especially if you are asthmatic.
