India is famous for quite a number of reasons. One among them includes being the natural habitat of tigers in India. It is also important to mention here that tiger is the national animal of India.

Tiger Safari in India has always attracted thousands of tourists across the world. There are lots of National Parks in India where one can enjoy the Tiger Safari. The most popular ones are Kaziranga National Park in Assam, Bandipur National Park in Karnataka, various national parks in Madhya Pradesh, Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, Corbett National Park in Uttar Pradesh and Sunderbans National Park in West Bengal.

Tigers possess huge strength and power. They have always been an attraction for adults as well as children. One of the best breeds of tigers in India is “Bengal tiger” which is found in West Bengal (Eastern India). Tigers are the largest species of the cats and are magnificent in appearance. They live in evergreen forests, rain forests or damp forests too. They are carnivorous and solitary hunters, and their prey is usually a deer or a wild pig. They live in dens or caves. They are usually nocturnal but some species in Corbett National Park in India are diurnal too. Their average is 150 cm to 290 cm with their tail being 60 cm to 65 cm long. In appearance, their back is reddish to orange in appearance with white parts below, and they also have black stripes all over their body. They attack their prey on its neck, thus paralyzing it completely before being able to take it to their den and then eat.

During 1970s the total numbers of tigers inhabiting India were more than 4000. However, with time, these numbers have only decreased. As per the latest report, there are only 1411 left in the country. Various policies and regulations have been introduced to save the tigers from getting extinct from India. ‘Save the Tiger’ campaign started by the government in early 2000s has helped a lot to put a halt to the decreasing number of tigers. There are a number of reasons for the sudden decline in the number of tigers across India, one of the main being poached. Now the government has very strict rules against poachers who include imprisonment for seven to ten years along with a heavy fine.

Tigers are the pride of India. Huge initiatives are being undertaken to save the tigers and to help them restore their numbers as they were in the early 1970s. People are getting aware of the fact that if immediate steps are not taken at the right time, the tigers may extinct from the land of India.
