Unique in all essence and unmatched when compared to any other country in the world. It boasts diversity in appearance and contrast in character which can be attention grabbing and puzzling at the same time. First impression of the country and culture can be shocking. The hot and humid climate, jumbled traffic and frantic hawkers and guides are a lot to handle all at once.

The begging and astonishing poverty can be surprising for the unprepared. It’s advised not to give to the beggars as a result you will be bombarded with more beggars or the same one with the other hand outstretch. Poverty is prevalent, but it is not the poverty that stands out the most, it is the inequality between the rich and the poor.

Fruits are a real eye-catcher in India and they are found everywhere. Beware though when consuming fruits not prepared by you despite how tempting they look.  Surrendering to such temptation will only end in regrets.

To avoid offending anyone and attracting unwanted attention to you especially women travelling alone. A rather conservative dressing is recommended for crowded places, local market and small towns. In major cities and metropolitans areas dress code is not an issue. As a precaution it’s advisable not to travel alone at nights and to unknown places especially if you’re a woman from foreign origin. There are instances where teasing occurs, more frequently for women.

Personal space and time alone are a luxury in India and if you’re taking a trip there, you’ll adjust in a reasonable enough time. With that said, with time you’ll be looking at India in an entirely different light.

Overall the country welcome all with open arms, it just takes a bit of understanding and adjusting to overcome culture shock and become comfortable with the approach of the nation.
