7 Steps to Easy Triplet Care!

If you have found out you are going to be the parent of triplets we are sure you have had a wide variety of emotions! From the pure joy of finding out you are going to be a parent to a bit of panic knowing that you have three times as much work to do for your children in raising them! It can be a very daunting prospect to look after 3 babies straight away! But fear not! Because we are here to assist you with some steps to becoming a great parent of triplets and not being afraid when it comes to raising them!

You must ensure you remain patient and expect for your children to spend a bit of time in the hospital. Triplets are generally always born early and will always usually have to spend some time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for a short period after they are born. If you can prepare yourself for this possibility then you should be nice and ready if you are told the news. And if the good news comes that they are healthy straight away, then that is just an added bonus!
Never rely entirely on your own skills and never be afraid to ask for help! A lot of parents assume they will be alright and can cope with the stress of triplets, only to find it is a lot more work than they bargained for! Make some phone calls to some friends and family and ask them if they are willing to come and help out for a bit. You can potentially even draw up a schedule of when they can come around so you don’t end up with about 10 people coming around at once offering to help!
Decide how you are going to feed your triplets and work out a feeding routine. You should decide if you are going to breastfeed them or feed them formula and then go about the relevant steps to plan for this. If you are planning to breastfeed then you should talk to the nurses at the hospital about providing you with an expert who can train you how to successfully breastfeed triplets. It is possible!
Make some different stations in your house for a wide variety of purposes! You should create a changing station, a feeding station and a play station so that all your babies can be prepared to go to certain areas of the house for certain times. Always make sure these places are stocked up with everything you need so you aren’t in a mad rush to find things when it’s time for them to go to a specific station!
It may sound a bit silly, but you should work out a way that you are going to be able to tell your babies apart! Being a new parent it’s pretty easy to not be able to tell which baby is which, so you can maybe colour code them with different clothes, certain t-shirts or even paint some nail polish on their toes! It’s important that you can tell them apart so that their individual personalities can continue to grow!
Organise a way that you and your partner can constantly and consistently get rest, eat and stay sane! It’s pretty easy to get so worked up and stressed about being a parent to triplets that you sometimes forget the simplest tasks during the day, so always make sure you keep your fluids up, eat normally and get plenty of rest. Work out a schedule if need be so you can always remain on top of things.
Look around in your area for potential baby groups that specialise in multiple births. This is a great way to get to know other parents who are facing the same issues you are, and it’s also a great way to meet new people for both you and your children. You can even potentially find out about great discounts that the group may be privy too which can save you money in the long run, and you can also even arrange babysitters and clothes to share and swap!

You should never be overly daunted at the prospect of having triplets as you will find it is more of a joyful experience rather than a stressful one. Never be afraid to ask for help no matter what, and always plan everything out in advance so that you can stay on top of things and never get too overwhelmed.

I’m sure this sounds easier than it actually is but you should never think that it is all too hard and that it can’t be done!
